Gwich'In Solidarity Event in Washington DC
                                                December 10 & 11  2018

Picture
On December 10 & 11 Carl Moore (Chairman) and Dave John (Treasurer) Headed to Washington DC to stand in solidarity with the Gwich'In Nation, Their Ancestral lands, including the coastal plain ( "Iizhik Gwats' an Gwandaii Goodlit" / "the sacred place where life begins" of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Northeast Alaska.  The coastal plain provides a sheltered calving grounds for the Porcupine caribou herd that has sustained the Gwich'In people since time immemorial.  The Trump Administration is launching an aggressive oil and gas leasing schedule to attempt to auction off the fragile coastal plain for destructive drilling.

The Gwich'In Nation are among many Indigenous leaders fighting this Administration's reckless "energy dominance" agenda.
This agenda furthers the destructive legacy of colonization in the United States.  When our fights are picked off one at a time, we are discounted.  We are stronger together.  Tribes and our allies nationwide are standing together to unite against the Trump Administration's attack on our human rights.

Utah People's Climate March - Library Square

April 29, 2017

Saturday, April 29, in Salt Lake City its time to March for climate, justice, and clean energy jobs.
#UTclimatemarch #PeoplesClimate #ClimateMarch
Climate change is being ignored by this administration. Utah People's Climate March stands with the worldwide march happening April 29, 2017, marking the 100th day of the Trump administration, whose policies have already targeted:

-Shrinking public lands / monuments
-EPA dissolution, Scott Pruitt appointment grant freezes, etc.
-Climate data being pulled from
government websites
-Climate change committee dissolution

We stand with the voices that aren't often heard when climate change is brought up, specifically indigenous and minority communities and peoples all over the world that more closely depend on the environment for drinking water, agriculture, spiritual practices, and their overall way of life.

Come show your support for real climate reform and demanding change as we march from the Salt Lake City Public Library to the Governor's Mansion to demand that Governor Herbert take climate change seriously. We will deliver to him the student-written Resolution on Climate Change that was summarily IGNORED by the Utah Legislature this session. We will demand action.

SLC Council Pack-In for the International Standing Rock Day of Action and Passing of the "Joint Resolution Supporting the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's Opposition to Dakota Access Pipeline Construction"

November 15, 2016

November 15th was declared and International Day of Action by the Water Protectors in Standing Rock, North Dakota. Specifically they were looking for actions to occur with the Army Corps of Engineers, sending the message that we wanted them to reject the permits for the Dakots Access Pipeline.  Joining over 150 planned actions in 47 States and over a dozen countries, thousands of Water Protectors from around the world all rose November 15th for an International Day of Action.

PANDOS held a rally that included some phenominal speakers and a march to the City County Building in Downtown SLC. The rally focused on the Army Corps of Engineers as well as the Public Lands Initiative for Ute Tribal lands here in Utah. Once we arrived to the City County building, the SLC Council adopted a joint resolution with the Mayor supporting the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline. More than 200 people attended the Formal Meeting to see the resolution's approval.

The resolution details possible negative impacts of the pipeline and discourages any action related to the pipeline that would harm or destroy the Tribe's ancestral lands, waters and sacred sites.

Standing Rock Prayer & Wells Fargo Action

October 31, 2016

Wells Fargo is the lead bank investing in the Dakota Access Pipeline- DAPL. That makes them complicit in the abusive treatment of water protectors and members of the media. They are also accountable for the damage to the environment this pipeline is causing.

The banks funding this atrocity depend on lots of people who deposit their cash in checking or savings accounts. They are using our money to fund this ecologically destructive project.

This action was meant to send a message to both the public, asking them to divert their funds to local credit union as well as let Wells Fargo know where we stand with their actions.

Native American Issue Candidate Forum

October 26, 2016

The Utah League of Native American Voters presented the inaugural Native American Issues Forum. This was the first ever forum hosted by the Native American voting bloc in Utah, in partnership with allies and friends, to discuss Native American issues and concerns in Utah electoral politics.

Issues covered ranged from land management, water rights, natural resource extraction and fossil fuel development, protection of sacred sites, culturally competent education, employment in economies crippled by federal and state law, adequate representation and acknowledgement in key decision-making structures, homeless native youth, violence in the native LGBTQ community, domestic violence, to substance abuse, and so forth, marking a series of issues not addressed and often ignored by elected officials and the current cadre of candidates.
